WASHINGTON, DC – The Progressive State Leaders Committee (PSLC) released the following statement after the Trump administration’s brazen attack on the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) in a coordinated effort to eliminate progress and civil rights.

Statement from Sean Rankin, PSLC President:

“This Administration is on its heels, losing support of late, even from longstanding conservative media allies, as a result of its reckless war and rudderless agenda. In its moment of internal crisis, this Administration runs into the arms of its only true constituency: far-right hate groups. How better to ingratiate themselves to these few remaining friends than target the Southern Poverty Law Center, a group that has pushed back on these same hate groups for decades and been a shelter for so many in the storm through the Civil Rights Movement and into the evolving landscape of hate in the current era. To the Southern Poverty Law Center, I say thank you for your relentless courage to protect the last, the least, and the lost since your inception and know that we stand with you. To all who have likewise demonstrated the courage to stand up against this unhinged Administration, I say stand with the Southern Poverty Law Center and push forward. We are gaining ground. We are making a difference. And we invite all those who now can see the truth to join us in defending the Southern Poverty Law Center, and whomever is attacked next. Stand with us. Stand together.”
