Attorneys General Office Fellowship Program
The Attorneys General Office Fellowship Program (“Program”) is a new initiative of the Progressive State Leaders Committee aimed at supporting the work of Attorneys General throughout the country who are committed to pursuing creative legal solutions to emerging issues on the federal or state level. The Program provides qualifying attorney general offices with access to experienced legal fellows to expand the capacity of the office during this critical time. Attorneys General have already proven themselves to be vital leaders in this moment, and the extra capacity will allow these offices to continue to protect the rights of their constituents and the rule of law.
To qualify to host a fellow through the Program, an Attorney General’s office must: (i) provide a statement describing the need for a legal fellow and the anticipated work that the fellow will participate in to; (ii) identify the base compensation for an attorney at the same experience level and with the same anticipated portfolio of the fellow; (iii) confirm that the office can, under all applicable state laws, regulations, orders, rules and policies, accept the help of a legal fellow whose compensation is paid for by an outside source; and (iv) have a demonstrated record of work (including, for example, participation in litigation, either as a party or as amici; submission of comments or advising on federal or state proposed rules; drafting op-ed pieces or other publications; or advocating before federal or state legislative committees) supporting at least three of the following issues:
- Fighting against predatory lending, price gouging, or other scams targeting vulnerable communities
- Combating the opioid crisis
- Protecting access to reproductive health care
- Pushing for safe and legal gun safety measures
- Defending laws that seek to protect the right to vote and ensure every eligible vote is counted
- Protecting state residents from harms resulting from unlawful federal actions, orders, and rules
- Safeguarding marriage equality and access to public accommodations free from discrimination
