NJ Attorney General Platkin releases violence intervention guidance

Published Date: Jun 12, 2025

Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin announced the release of new guidance for law enforcement agencies and Community-Based Violence Intervention (CBVI) program providers at the third annual Attorney General’s Gun and Community Violence Prevention and Response Symposium, hosted by the Division of Violence Intervention and Victim Assistance (VIVA). “In New Jersey, shootings have decreased significantly for two consecutive years, dropping to all-time lows. This is the result of our comprehensive approach to violence reduction.  The Multidisciplinary Public Safety Innovation Working Group has confirmed through their thorough and thoughtful report and recommendations that law enforcement and CBVI groups share the same goal: stopping violence. As a result, today I have issued first-in-the-nation guidance that will reinforce the bonds between community and law enforcement, continuing to make our state safer. Today is another groundbreaking step that demonstrates New Jersey’s true collaborative spirit and commitment to preventing the cycles of violence and harm.” – AG Platkin
