"In light of recent confusion following the U.S. Supreme Court’s June 27, 2025 decision on nationwide injunctions and a wave of litigation relating to United States citizenship, I want to be unequivocally clear: birthright citizenship remains the law of the land. Under the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, any child born on U.S. soil is a United States citizen, regardless of their parents’ immigration status. While the Trump administration has attempted to roll back this long-standing Constitutional right through executive action, those efforts are currently blocked by nationwide injunctions that remain in effect… Any attempt to strip children of their Constitutional right to citizenship is not only unlawful under current precedent, but a direct attack on our nation’s values. We understand that ongoing litigation and conflicting messages from federal officials have created fear and uncertainty. That is why it is more important than ever for state leaders to speak with clarity and resolve. I will continue to forcefully defend the rights of all Americans and the Constitution I swore an oath to uphold."
