Attorney General Phil Weiser released the following statement after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down a Hawaii law governing firearms on private property:
“Today’s decision is disappointing and undermines the ability of states to enact reasonable gun safety measures that respect both community safety and private property rights. Hawai’i’s law reflected a straightforward and commonsense principle: private property owners should have meaningful control over whether firearms are carried onto their property. Instead, the court has limited states’ flexibility to adopt practical policies tailored to the needs and preferences of their communities…" – AG Weiser
