AG Weiser leads coalition of attorneys general in opposing taxpayer-funded religious charter school

Published Date: Apr 7, 2025

Attorney General Phil Weiser today led 18 attorneys general in filing a brief urging the U.S. Supreme Court to reject the creation of the nation’s first publicly funded religious charter school. The case, Oklahoma Statewide Charter School Board v. Drummond, asks the Court to uphold a ruling by the Oklahoma Supreme Court, which found the school’s approval unconstitutional.

“Charter schools are, and have always been, public schools. This case attempts to blur the line between public governance and private interests in education. If successful, this case would open the door to religious instruction in public schools, intertwine the government with religion, and severely disrupt education systems that millions of families rely on. We are urging the Court to preserve the clear constitutional boundary that protects both religious liberty and the integrity of our public education system.”- AG Weiser
