AG Weiser announced that PersonalTConsulting LLP, which operated as Personal Tradelines, will stop offering its credit repair services to Colorado consumers and pay $20,000 in penalties under a settlement resolving violations of the Colorado Credit Services Organization Act.
The settlement alleges that the company marketed services claiming to improve consumers’ credit scores by adding them as “authorized users” on credit card accounts belonging to people with stronger credit, a practice known as piggybacking. The company also allegedly charged consumers in advance, made unsubstantiated or misleading representations about the benefits of purchasing tradelines—revolving credit lines found on a consumer’s credit report—and failed to provide disclosures required under state law.
“Colorado law requires transparency, honesty, and fairness from any business promising to help consumers repair or build their credit. When companies offer piggybacking, charge people upfront for services, misrepresent what those services can achieve, or fail to provide legally required disclosures, they put financially vulnerable consumers at risk. This settlement reinforces that we will hold credit services organizations accountable when they harm consumers.” – AG Weiser
