AG Weiser alerts parents to the dangers of social AI chatbots

Attorney General PhilWeiser issued a consumer alert warning parents of the dangers of children’s useof social chatbots powered by artificial intelligence, or AI. The alert isin response to the growing number of social AI chatbots and the sharp rise inreports of children engaging in risky behavior, including self-harm, resultingfrom interactions with social AI chatbots. “Artificial intelligence is evolvingrapidly, and many parents may not even be aware of social AI chatbots and theirpotential to harm children. That needs to change because the rise of thesechatbots poses dangerous risks that must be addressed. I encourage parents totalk to kids about what social AI chatbots are, to think critically about theirinteractions with these chatbots, and to use chatbots and other AI tools safelyand responsibly.” – AG Weiser
