Attorney GeneralWilliam Tong this week led a bipartisan coalition of 39 attorneys generalurging Congress to take immediate action to address the impending fundingcrisis threatening the World Trade Center Health Program (WTCHP), a lifelinefor more than 135,000 first responders, survivors, and families impacted by theSeptember 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. In a letter to congressionalleadership, Attorney General Tong and the coalition called for urgentlegislative action to ensure the long-term financial stability of the WTCHP,which is projected to face a devastating funding shortfall as early as nextyear. “The survivors and heroic first responders of September 11—many of whomlive in Connecticut— are not a political football. They were exposed to toxicdust and debris, and require specialized medical care to monitor and treat theserious diseases linked to their exposure. This is a non-negotiable obligationof our government, and Congress needs to set aside any disagreement ordysfunction to immediately address the looming funding shortfall.” – AG Tong
