AG Nessel sent a detailed election law guidance letter to law enforcement agencies across the State ahead of the upcoming election cycle. With Michigan’s primary election on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, and general election on November 3, 2026, as well as early voting periods, the initiative is a standard practice for the Department of Attorney General. It is designed to prepare law enforcement officers to protect voters’ rights throughout the election process.
Protecting the right to vote is the foundation of our democracy, and every eligible Michigander deserves to exercise that right without intimidation or harassment. While election law can be complex, this guidance equips law enforcement to handle issues on the ground, while also serving as a resource for voters. When residents know the law and understand their rights, we can all help ensure our elections remain safe and accessible.” -AG Nessel
