Michigan AttorneyGeneral Dana Nessel designated Copper Shores Community Health Foundation as therecipient of more than $20 million in charitable funds arising from the 2013joint venture between Portage Health, a non-profit hospital operator in Hancock,Michigan, and Lifepoint Holdings 2, LLC a for-profit subsidiary of LifepointHospitals. “When a charitable nonprofit transitions to for-profit ownership, myDepartment scrutinizes the agreement, tracks promised investments and, whennecessary, steps in to ensure funds are delivered. There may have never been agreater need for rural health support than right now, as our state is facingmassive cuts at the federal level. I am excited to award this money to CopperShores and trust that they will continue their critical work advancing thehealth and well-being for the communities they serve.” – AG Nessel
