AG Davenport Issues Statement After CEO Group Prevents Health Inspectors from Conducting a Full Inspection

Published Date: Jun 24, 2026

Governor Mikie Sherrill, Attorney General Jennifer Davenport, and Department of Health (DOH) Commissioner Raynard E. Washington today are providing the following update after health inspectors were not allowed to conduct a full inspection of Delaney Hall, the immigration detention center operated by the GEO Group, Inc., in Newark, and were allowed entry only to see limited parts of the facility.

“Over the last few months, we’ve heard numerous troubling reports of unsanitary conditions, rotten food, substandard medical care, and even a reported case of tuberculosis at Delaney Hall. GEO Group’s refusal to allow health inspectors to conduct a full inspection of the facility raises a simple question: What are they trying to hide? The people detained inside Delaney Hall must be treated with dignity. We will continue to do everything in our power to ensure that our health inspectors can conduct a complete inspection of Delaney Hall.” – AG Davenport
