AG Davenport Announces New Section of Division of Civil Rights to Safeguard Rights of Students

Published Date: Jul 23, 2026

Attorney General Jennifer Davenport and the Division on Civil Rights (DCR) today announced that DCR has taken several key actions to safeguard the civil rights of New Jersey students. DCR is establishing a new Education and Public Accommodations Enforcement Section that will expand DCR’s capacity to address discrimination in K-12 schools, universities, and other settings covered under the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination (LAD).

“As the Trump Administration continues to roll back landmark civil rights protections, students have paid the price for the federal government’s irresponsible abdication of its duty. But every student in New Jersey deserves the chance to learn free from discrimination and harassment. We created the Education and Public Accommodations Enforcement Section because we must step up our efforts to protect our kids from discrimination – even as the federal government does exactly the opposite.” – AG Davenport
