AG Campbell Issues a Statement on the SCOTUS Ruling Threatening Transgender Athletes’ Ability To Participate In Sports

Published Date: Jun 30, 2026

AG Campbell issued the following statement in response to today’s ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court in West Virginia v. B.P.J., permitting state-level restrictions on transgender women’s participation in women’s sports:

“This decision further marginalizes transgender students by allowing states to deny them the ability to participate in school athletics as their authentic selves. Allowing blanket policies that exclude transgender students from school sports does not ensure fairness or create inclusive school environments; it instead marginalizes and harms vulnerable students. Massachusetts law continues to protect transgender students, including student athletes who play sports in accordance with their gender identity. We are reviewing the Court’s decision and its implications carefully.” -AG Campbell
