AG Brown Releases Statement on SCOTUS Ruling Preserving Mail-In Voting

Published Date: Jun 29, 2026

Washington Attorney General Nick Brown released the following statement on today’s 5-4 U.S. Supreme Court decision, Watson v. Republican National Committee:

“Today’s decision is a major win for voters and a firm rebuke of Donald Trump’s strategy to take control of states’ voting systems. What this means for us is that Washington’s system of vote-by-mail doesn’t change. You will have to vote and get your ballot postmarked by election day. But it will still be counted if it arrives at the county auditor after election day…The court majority couldn’t have been clearer on this point, writing, ‘Finally, plaintiffs’ policy arguments about election integrity and voter confidence are properly directed to legislatures, not courts.’” – AG Brown
