AG Bonta and AG Weiser co-led a multistate coalition of 19 AGs in filing an amicus brief to the U.S. Supreme Court in support of Boulder County and the City of Boulder in their climate deception case, Suncor Energy Inc. v. County Commissioners of Boulder County. In the amicus brief, the coalition argues that federal law does not preempt state-law tort claims like Boulder’s.

“For decades, Big Oil has relied on deceptive tactics to mislead consumers about the harms of fossil fuel use, and states have a duty to protect the welfare of our residents from those harms. In today’s amicus brief, we’re supporting Boulder’s efforts to hold accountable corporations looking to line their pockets at the expense of the health and well-being of the American people.
