MD Attorney General issues statement on Supreme Court’s decision in Mahmoud v. Taylor

Attorney General Anthony G. Brown issued thefollowing statement this morning on the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Mahmoud v. Taylor,which concerns whether Montgomery County public schools must allow parents to opt theirchildren out of lessons involving LGBTQ+ inclusive literature.“We are profoundly disappointed by the Court’s decision to compel Montgomery County toallow parents to opt their children out of classes where LGBTQ-inclusive books are read. Thesematerials help teachers create classrooms where all students can thrive and feel safe, regardlessof their gender identity or sexual orientation.My Office will continue to defend all Marylanders against discrimination and keep fighting for afuture where LGBTQ residents feel safe and accepted in every community throughout ourState.” – AG Brown
