MD Attorney General Brown issues statement on the Supreme Court of Maryland’s decision in Fooks v. State of Maryland

MD Attorney General Anthony G. Brown issued the following statement on the Supreme Court of Maryland’s June 6, 2025 decision in Robert L. Fooks v. State of Maryland which upheld the constitutionality of Maryland’s law prohibiting individuals with felony-level criminal convictions from possessing firearms: “The decision by Maryland’s highest court keeps our communities safe. It makes clear that Maryland can continue to keep firearms out of the hands of individuals with serious criminal records – a policy consistent with common sense, our Constitution, and our commitment to reducing gun violence.As Attorney General, I remain dedicated to defending laws that save lives, hold people accountable for their actions, and respect the rights of law-abiding Marylanders. We will continue working every day to uphold laws that protect the safety and wellbeing of every Marylander.” – AG Brown
