    Illinois v. Environmental Protection Agency

    AGs and local governments filed a petition for review challenging the Trump Administration’s repeal of the 2024 Mercury and Air Toxics Standards (MATS) Rule that implemented nationwide standards that limit emissions of toxic air pollutants from coal- and oil-fired power plants, including mercury, arsenic, lead and other toxic metals, in addition to acid gases, such as hydrogen chloride and formaldehyde.

    Massachusetts v. Environmental Protection Agency

    AG coalition (including the AG from the U.S. Virgin Islands), the Governor of Pennsylvania, and 10 cities and counties filed a petition for review challenging the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) rescission of the Endangerment Finding, EPA’s formal acknowledgement that greenhouse gas emissions from motor vehicles contribute to air pollution that drives climate change and endangers public health and welfare; it has served as the legal basis under the Clean Air Act for limiting climate pollution from vehicles.
